My Sephora Haul

I finally received all of my orders from Sephora’s latest Insider Sale! As a Rouge insider it was a great time to stock up on my favorites (and try a few new things) while I could get 20% off. Yall, this sales happens only twice a year. No matter your status, you can still receive a discount, so if you’re not a insider yet – what the heck are you waiting for? Ok, let’s get to what you really came here for…. the goods!

Sephora Haul!

I’ll start with my old favorites and then talk about what I’m trying new next.

  • Sephora’s Tinted Self-Tanning Body Mist. I’ve used this spray for the past 4 summers and I buy it every year. Although I’m a #brownskin girl – I love this mist to give me a pretty glow (that’s not shimmery). The smell of the fragrance also reminds me of the beach and vacation! Whenever I’m wearing dresses, my arms out, or skirts I do 2 coats of the mist and head out the door. The glow tan lasts for me for about 4 days before I re-apply. A little does come off each day in the shower, but this is still my go to and under $20.
  • Brazilian Bum Bum Cream – Oh. My. Gosh. If you’ve never owned a jar of Bum Bum Cream you are missing out. Point blank peroidt. This cream has a fast-absorbing texture and the formula helps your body look and feel its smoothest and claims tightest. The ingredient of pistachio caramel leaves skin delicately fragranced. Trust me! It’s so good!
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner– The only liquid liner that I will ever use. It has a felt tip liner which makes the easiest wing’d liner and the color is a rich black. You’ll love it!
  • Dior Maximizer 3D Triple Lash Primer – I always love to see people’s reaction when I tell them that I use a mascara primer – haha. I’m telling you once you use it, you’ll never go without it when applying your regular mascara. Dior’s primer coats each of your lashes with a dense and lightweight layer to intensify the effects of your mascara that you’ll layer over it. It will add curl and volume. Pair it with your favorite mascara, mine are Tarte, Marc Jacobs, and of course Dior!
  • Fenty Concealer – If you know me, you know that I love my Fenty foundation! when the concealer was released, I immediately jumped on the wagon and purchased a tube and I’ve never looked back. I do purchase the same shade in my concealer as the foundation, which is 420 because there are a lot of days I just throw on my concealer and dash out the door. It stays put, coverage is so good, and it doesn’t crease under my eyes.
  • Clinique Acne Solutions Toner – I’ve been using this toner since I was in high school and that was back in 2005 – Lol! I use this toner every other day or couple of days at night when I don’t have any present acne bumps just to keep my skin clear. When I do have those stubborn little acne bumps I use this toner twice a day along with the Clinique Acne Spot Treatment and my bumps are gone within 3 days!

Ok, now for the new things I’m trying!

  • Fenty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream – This is new to me and also my first time trying out cream blush. I’ve used this once and it was so EASY to apply! I used my fingertips and just placed it on the apples of my cheeks. If you don’t feel comfortable using your fingers, you can try out a brush for cream blush, or a beautyblender sponge.
  • Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum – First off this bottle is super cute! Secondly, this serum can be used alone after you cleanse and moisturize your face. It will give you the prettiest glow and it works so well under your makeup to give you the finest hydrated flawless look. Might I add it has a nearly 5-star rating!!
  • Innisfree Cherry Blossom Dewy Glow Mist – Another glowy product that has nearly a 5-star review! I had to try out this mist that’s under $20! “This mist is packed with cherry blossom leaf extract to support visible radiance. It is infused with niacinamide to brighten the look of skin and naturally derived betaine to hydrate. This multitasking mist can be used as a toner before and after makeup or throughout the day to replenish and deliver the appearance of dewy, glowing skin.” (pulled from Sephora).
  • Dr. Jart’s Shake & Shot Rubber Brightening Mask – First off, this product packaging is so cool! I have yet to use the mask (I’m saving it for #selfcareSunday) but the reviews are wonderful on this mask. Follow me on Instagram so you can stay tuned on my honest thoughts on this mask after I apply it.
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer – I’ve used this a few years ago during the spring/summer months and loved it. I decided to order another tube and it’s great for warmer days and you don’t want a full face. I love that it has sunscreen it too! It gives me a just enough coverage to get through the day – a little goes along way!

Welp, that’s it! I really hope you enjoyed my Sephora Haul! You can shop these products here on the page or in LIKETOKNOW.it! Please not: I do receive a small commission when you shop my links, I appreciate your support always!

Let me know what you think of these products, or let me know your favorites! xoxo

Mother’s Day Gift Guide for The Leading Lady in Your Life!

Me & My Mommy!

Mother’s Day is literally right around the corner and I’m so late into the game of getting this gift guide out to yall. You would think all this time in the house I would be so organized, and yall I’m just not. Haha and that’s okay too. I hope that you can think of this guide not only for your mom, but for that leading lady in your life whether it’s a gift for your grandmother, aunt, sister, or best friend. Also, when purchasing gifts be intentional in your “gifting”. Add a personal touch to your gift whether it’s through a handwritten note, or a handmade gift bag. If you don’t have much to spend, that’s okay too. Most things from the heart are some of the very best gifts to give! For example, my mom LOVES Chick-Fil-A milkshakes and the best gift I’ve ever gotten for her has been a $5-$10 gift card to Chick-Fil-A and a handwritten note expressing that I love her more than chocolate milkshakes. See? A personal touch always gives that special gift an extra special touch.

Luckily all stores will ship, and you can also purchase gift cards virtually too! Just remember you can still add your personal touch by uploading pictures and still writing meaningful messages virtually. Ok, what you’ve all been waiting for THE GIFT GUIDE! Let’s go.

Posted on LTK too!

Monogram Necklace – I love anything monogrammed, maybe it’s the southern in me – haha, but it’s an easy and thoughtful gift to give. Because it is a gift, make sure that you keep it simple, classic, and chic.

Anthropologie has some really nice simple and sleek monogram necklaces I’m sure that the leading lady in your life will really enjoy. They will reach for this time and time again.

Journals – Journal’s are nice for the ones who enjoy writing or journaling. For the leading lady that loves to keep a journal by her bedside to write her thoughts or scriptures down this would be perfect. Go an extra mile and have journals monogrammed or engraved.

Picture Frames – I love gifting (and receiving) simple and delicate picture frames. Add a photo of you and the leading lady in your life inside the frame. When gifting a picture frame try to go for simple frames, nothing with large and overwhelming patterns or designs. Keeping it simple will ensure that the frame will be used and cherished.  Again, here is your chance to make this as special as you want this gift to be.

Lipstick Holder – Oh my goodness, I just about died a little when I saw this cute little lipstick holder from Anthroplogie. They also come in a few other sizes. How cute would this be on the vanity? Your mom can have her favorite lipsticks displayed in her room or bathroom on this cute holder.

Coffee/Tea Mugs – Who doesn’t love a nice coffee/tea mug? I’ve even seen some display their mugs in a cabinet. I love those that are different and chic. I always rely on Anthroplogie for a new mug. They make great gifts for those who are coffee/tea lovers. Go the extra mile and drop some tea bags, or a gift card to Starbucks inside the mug to make the present extra thoughtful. Even a nice travel mug would be thoughtful!

For the cooking ladies, gifting some nice bowls are a win! I have gifted these bowls a few times and the recipients have always loved and still use them today. I must admit I may have a couple of these in my cabinet I love how fun and affordable these bowls are.

Throws! As I’m writing this post, we’re in the middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic so many of us are at home for days, weeks at a time. Why not gift a beautiful and cozy throw as a way to say “Hey, I miss you and thinking of you”. How special would that gift be to the leading lady in your life?

Kimonos! Kimonos are so fun to gift! Especially if they’re a fashionista. Most if not all kimonos come in a size that fits everyone. It will put a smile on anyone’s face to receive a new kimono from someone they love!

Below are some other fun and neat gifts to give!

I hope you enjoyed these gift ideas, and hope they inspire you as you shop and gift these to the leading lady in your life. Again, if it comes from the heart it will be well received. Below are some local shops that also have some great gifts, check em out!

Have a great time celebrating on Mother’s Day friends! xoxo

P.s. each time you shop with my links I earn a small commission, as always I thank and appreciate you for supporting my passion through this blog!

Quarantine Self-Care Ideas

Yall, two months ago I never would have pictured us being secluded from the world in our homes for weeks at a time. As I write this, we’re ending week 5 and heading into week 6. I’m going to pause here for a min to say to our front-line workers through all of this, THANK YOU! You guys are the real heroes! I am praying for all of our essential workers, for their safety and protection, and for their families they are leaving behind day in and out. Our country will be stronger throughout all of this I pray! Ok, back to the post.

I thought I would share some #Quarantine “self-care” ideas. Some of these I want to try, and some are actually on my to-do list since we have all the time in the world, but not too much time for me since I’m still working my full-time job from home. I really hope these ideas inspire, encourage, and help to fill up some time. I know many of you have little ones running around the house, and although I am single I hope that you can still partake in some of these self-care ideas and of course feel free to tweak whatever you want! I would love to know if you try any of these ideas, or if you have some other ideas drop them in the comment section!

  • Take a Drive! Yes, take a drive! One thing I miss is my commute to work because that’s the only time I’m able to sit and just listen to a good podcast whether a true crime podcast or a HR podcast. When I’ve been in the house too long, or I start to get frustrated I fix me some ginger ale or sweet tea in my yeti cup and just drive! Gas is really low so why not get out and go driving, maybe drive over to the next town to sight-see some cool landmarks (I mean no one is out – literally). Pack a light lunch or light snacks and fill your coolers and hit the road. For me it calms my anxiety and gives me a chance to clear my mind. If you need some recommendations for podcast let me know in the comments.
  • Plant Flowers/Trees – Most hardware and garden centers are open and doing curbside assistance. Me and my mom went to our local garden center and got all the things we needed to plant vegetables for my mom, and small potted flowers for me. We then took one Saturday to play around in the yard and plant all of our things it was so fun, and the time flew by! Being outside and your hands in the dirt is so good for your well-being during quarantine.
  • Shut it All Down! Take 1-2 hours every other day and shut down your devices! Every other day or every day if you can, take a couple of hours to shut off the TV, laptop, and fun to just meditate and have some alone time. Have kids? Encourage them to the same with you guide them into a practice of “disconnecting” and practicing some “quiet time”. Use this time to journal, read a self-help book, some scriptures, or just lay in God’s presence.
  • Check on a friend! This is a great daily practice. Pick one friend (or more if you have the time) and face-time, phone, or text a friend or a co-worker that you’re missing. This will do good for your soul, and make sure there is plenty of laughter in the midst of your conversation.
  • Spa Night! Take an evening and turn on some zen music, put on a mask, paint your nails or toes. Have little ones? Get them to join in! Put them in a robe and cut up some cucumbers for their eyes – take an hour or two to just relax and focus on yourself. Here is a link to some fun masks from Sephora.
  • Bake/Cook – I know for me during #quarantine I have found some relaxation in baking or cooking something new! I’ve been on Pinterest more than ever and just searching for fun and new easy recipes.
  • Paint! I’ve also been on YouTube looking up fun easy paintings I could do. Did you know there are tons of painting tutorials on YouTube? I’m blown away. I have my canvas, paintbrushes, and paint in my room just waiting for me to use. I plan to take these things outside this weekend with my iPad to access YouTube and paint something. A great thing to do to keep your mind occupied and a great self-care thing to do! This is the time to try all the things with all this extra time.
  • Dance! Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed I take some music crank it up and just move throughout my room. Everyone in your household could do this too. If it becomes a “thing” you love – make it a daily thing you do with your family and have a “dance happy hour”. Music is definitely therapeutic.
  • BreatheDon’t forget to breathe, and give yourself lots and lots of grace as we continue to do our part in staying home. You are not in this alone.

Hi Friends,

Easter weekend is here and I’m thinking about how this will be the first year where I won’t be in a “building” surrounded by my faith family celebrating the resurrection of our Savior. I also know that I don’t have to go to church to celebrate Easter. I can do that right from home and I plan to do just that. I’m looking forward to this weekend. I plan to get outside and plant some pretty flowers, build a mini cross, and prepare an Easter meal or maybe just something sweet! I will still fix myself up to watch online Easter services and reflect on the goodness of God throughout the day. Now more than ever what’s going on is testing many of our faith levels. The church is home now, not a physical building (nor was it ever – we individually are called to be the church).

Find this beautiful floral dress from Target!

The enemy thinks he’s winning with the effects of COVID-19 looming over us and keeping us “home”. I don’t think he’s winning at all. I’ve experienced so many sweet moments being in isolation that I would have never experienced if we weren’t forced to be home. I’m choosing to find the tiny joys and victories throughout my day and I’m challenging you too to find those same joys and victories.

I know at times it may be hard to process what’s going on all around us and some days I have my moments where I’m thinking “when is this all going to end”. But you know what? I’m so glad Easter is here because it’s taking my mind off what’s going on in the world, in fixing my eyes on the beautiful story of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is alive and well, yall! He knew no sin, but yet He thought I was to die for with all my sins that I carry.

If you have some time, or want to know more of the Easter story in the Bible, click here to read a beautiful summary of it all.

“The goodness of Good Friday is that because He walked silently to the cross, like a Lamb to slaughter, not protesting the punishment meted out upon Him, we have hope. He was rejected by God that we might be made acceptable to God, a people for His own possession. This was the promise given through Jeremiah: “I will be their God, and they will be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33).” Read more here…#SheReadsTruth

How do you plan to spend this beautiful weekend? I would love to read, so feel free to share in the comments. I’m thinking of all my readers and friends daily.

We will get through this and let’s rejoice because He is alive! P.s. If you’re looking for somewhere to stream Easter services, can I say you can join me at my church? We would love to worship with you or one of the pastors can walk you through Salvation! There are Saturday services available as well as 5 services on Sundays. The best thing? You can worship right where you are this weekend – tune in and get connected with Pinelake Church!

How to Shop Online

I get a lot of messages asking how do I know which size to buy, so I thought I would share some of my tips and tricks when shopping online. It’s taken me a few years to finally nail down what size I need to order from certain brands after a lot of frustration of either picking something too small or something not flattering.

SHEin Curves dress. I’m wearing the 3X here, but could have sized down to a 2X.

My first and foremost important tip to picking your size online is to purchase and own a measuring tape. Super affordable and will help when figuring out your size online. If you have one go ahead and measure your bust, waist, and hips and jot your numbers down somewhere where you can easily locate them such as in your note app. I used to get upset about my measurement numbers but girlfriend don’t let it get to you – I knocked that negativity out the window years ago. I buy things that make me happy, and not worry about the size label on the inside. So I’m releasing that from you  (smile).

When it’s a new brand (to you), look at the sizing chart and compare it to your numbers. When in doubt I always say SIZE UP ONE. For example, my bust is 46 on some sizing charts that number can fall anywhere between XL-2X (depending on the brand), If 1X is 46 and 2X is 48, I will more than always likely go with the 2X BECAUSE I don’t like super fitted clothes, so I know the 2x will work just fine with just enough room in the bust area for me. If something is way too big, you can always tuck it (if it’s a shirt), or belt it. I would rather have something taken in, than taking out.

Next, I’m a huge fan of reviews! I know, I know, who has times to read reviews. Butttt, I do like read a few reviews just to see if they are real photos and read about the quality of the item. Trust me, it works. If only I could just remember to go back and write reviews on things I’ve purchased. I’m looking for ratings in addition to reviews does the dress I’m looking for have 5 stars or 2, and if it’s 2 stars why did the dress get 2 stars? There will be times where you can tell people don’t leave authentic reviews and you can filter those out.

Kimonos are great because they almost always run large. I always size down one when buying kimonos.

When it comes to fabric that plays a factor when selecting clothing online. If the clothing item has no stretch I like to size up. If a top, sweater, or dress is “oversized’ I can typically size down one to two sizes. The boutique brand UMGEE that you see a lot in different online boutiques runs extremely large, so I know that anytime that I see that brand I know I can size down confidently in that item. When it comes to shopping with online boutiques – I really have to rely on the stock photos, consider the model, and if there are any review. Again I’m looking at the brands that the online boutique carries, like are they carrying UMGEE or PEACE LOVE CAKE, because those brands typically run large so I know I can get away with a Large and sometimes a Medium.

If I see something online that I LOVE or curious about, if it’s available in store I tend to go to the store to look at and feel it, even if it’s not my correct size I can get a great sense of it when I can touch it (now I know this is not the case for all things, but sometimes it works out). For example, Loft carries plus sizes online, but not in all stores. If I see something online at Loft in plus, I know that I can go into Loft store and see it in another size in order for me to make my determination on if I should purchase online or not.

Also, I’m always looking for things that I’m going to get the most wear out of. I tend to stay away from a lot of “trendy” prints that may only be in season for a year or two and go towards lots of solids and classic prints such as “leopard” and “stripes”. I love bold colors and bold prints, and you can tell if something will take you from season to season, year after year. That’s what I tend to stick with at the most. I’m also looking at the price tag – is it affordable, if it’s a splurge item and it’s costing me around $60 I’m asking myself will I wear it at least 30x’s just so that I can get my moneys worth.

Lastly, never be afraid to email an online boutique to ask what brand an item is and ask for sizing details. I’ve done this before and it really helped in my purchasing decision. I also know which brands I have the most success purchase rate, and when I need something in a pinch, I know I can count on that particular brand. Look for key statements such as “runs large”, or “runs small” – these really help determine what size to buy. Anthropologie is really good about listing these statements on a lot of the clothes they sell and they help tremendously.

I hope that these tips help you the next time you browse and shop online! Shopping online is fun, but can also be a little overwhelming – so give yourself grace to have trial and error. To help, I’m going to share some of my fav brands below with the sizes that I typically order. Reference I’m 5’0, wear a 1x or 2x in tops, dresses, and bottoms. For number size in tops I wear a 16 or 18. Sweaters XL or 2x (if it’s oversized I can get away with a L sometimes). I wear a 18 or 20 in pants and skirts (with no elastic). In dresses I wear a 18 or 20 (if it has no stretch).

Tee’s – XXL or 16 Plus

What Enneagram Number Are You?

Have you had someone ask you, “Hey, what’s your Enneagram number?”. Maybe you blurted out, “Yeah! I’m a 3!” or maybe have said, “What is the Enneagram?”. To be honest I’m not sure how long Enneagram has really been around, but I found out about this personality number about 2 years ago and ever since I took the test, it has been a confirmation on my personality and emotions. So you’re probably thinking, okay what exactly is the Enneagram? Well I’ll tell ya, and keep reading to find out how you can take your free personality test to discover your number or numbers. I’ll reveal my number at the end of this post.

The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system aka personal growth self-assessment test with a mysterious accuracy in describing how we as human beings are wired, both positively and negatively. I highly suggest you read the book, The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile as both authors offer a unique approach that is practical to understand and they offer a comprehensive way of accessing Enneagram wisdom and exploring its connections with a Christian perspective. The book allows you to glance inside each of the nine Enneagram types (there are 9). After reading the book you will have a greater knowledge of yourself and start to see the world through others with an understanding why we act the way do, feel, and think. The test offers a way to change how you see yourself and others. The Enneagram helps in the areas of your career and relationships with others, and how each “types” relate to one another. It is a very cool thing to discover your number and then have a discussion with your friends to see what their numbers are and start to piece everyone together. I’m all about community, so the whole thing of finding your Enneagram is so cool because it gives me a chance to understand others on a different level and add depth to relationships. So, what are each of the numbers? Well I’ve placed them below, and at the end I’ll reveal my number!

The Rational, Idealistic Type: Principled, Purposeful, Self-Controlled, and Perfectionistic

The Caring, Interpersonal Type: Demonstrative, Generous, People-Pleasing, and Possessive

The Success-Oriented, Pragmatic Type: Adaptive, Excelling, Driven, and Image-Conscious

The Sensitive, Withdrawn Type: Expressive, Dramatic, Self-Absorbed, and Temperamental

The Intense, Cerebral Type: Perceptive, Innovative, Secretive, and Isolated

The Committed, Security-Oriented Type: Engaging, Responsible, Anxious, and Suspicious

The Busy, Fun-Loving Type: Spontaneous, Versatile, Distractible, and Scattered

The Powerful, Dominating Type: Self-Confident, Decisive, Willful, and Confrontational

The Easygoing, Self-Effacing Type: Receptive, Reassuring, Agreeable, and Complacent

Just reading over those types you can’t help but to assign those types to either yourself or to someone you already know whose personality fits one of the above types. Can you guess which Enneagram number am I? I’m a 2 (The Helper)! When I got the results of my test a couple years ago, it was almost spooky how spot on it was. As I started to discuss my number with others, it was neat to see how everyone was a different number and how those who had the same number as me, explained why we were such good friends! My number also explained to me why my emotions are all over the place at times when it comes to situations and relationships.

Ready to take the free test to discover your number(s)? Some have 2 top numbers. Click here, and then come back here and let me know which type you are and if you’re a fellow type 2 I would certainly like to know too!!

Protecting Your Mental Space

In the chaos of everything, I pray you’re well as as your family. Take a moment to ready 5 ways to protect your mental space.

With the chaos of everything going on, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed or fearful of what’s to come. I do believe that this is a time for us all to reevaluate our priorities and to consider using this time for rest, home projects, quality family time in homes, etc. As someone who has and continues to walk through anxiety, I wanted to share 5 tips in protecting your “mental space”. These are what help me, but may not necessarily help you – everyone is different and that’s okay. After you read this post in the comments below feel free to share a tip or two you lean on when you experience anxiety.

1.Limit watching or reading the news, even bowing out gracefully of conversations that overwhelm you. It’s okay to know the facts, but be mindful of your head space.

2. Set aside some quiet time 10-20 to just breathe, and meditate -DAILY

3. Turn your attention to things you can control right in front of you – do things that bring you joy or provide peace in your space such as lighting a candle

4. Ask for help, or guidance to get through – for me, praying helps bring me back (none of this is an accident to Christ, He knows and holds the future) I choose to rest in that and in Him

5. Last but not least, find a reason to just LAUGH – pull up a funny video, text some memes to your friends, be silly, laugh at yourself.

I hope one or all of these tips help you in the days or weeks to come. I hope you’ll choose to come back here to find light & joy! I’ll continue to share styles, sales, and inspiration totally NOT forgetting what’s happening around us. Let’s pray for our health professionals – they need our support and prayers. Check on your family, neighbors, and friends. Support local businesses by utilizing their curbside, and delivery services. There are SO many ways WE can help and get through this uncomfortable time together. Remain calm & breathe! I’m in this with you babe! 😘

Don’t Get Pinched!
